Healthy skin
A healthy skin barrier provides the best defence against environmental irritants for your dog. Our skin, fur and claw health supplement combines powerful ingredients to create a truly effective supplement for skin barrier health and function; keeping moisture locked into the stratum corneum skin layer and protecting against external allergens and bacteria. Our formula provides soothing active ingredients which are perfect for dogs with sensitive skin that need extra support; dull or fur, and claws that are prone to breakage.
Active ingredients to promote skin barrier health, helping to soothe itching, flaking and sensitive skin. Seven different essential Amino Acids support keratin synthesis, helping to improve skin tissue quality. B-group vitamins support fatty acid metabolism, moisture retention of the skin, and skin barrier integrity by improving skin resilience against environmental stressors, as well as soothing inflammation.
Amino Acids:
• Methionine: Essential for producing keratin, the primary protein in hair, and is critical for a healthy skin barrier and glossy coat. It also aids in detoxification and antioxidant support.
• Lysine: Vital for collagen formation, which keeps skin and connective tissues healthy, and supports immune function.
• Histidine: Enables the body to produce histamines and is crucial for tissue repair.
• Threonine: Supports strong skin tissue development.
• Isoleucine & Valine: Support wound healing and energy production in skin cells.
• Tryptophan: Support overall skin health by aiding in the production of serotonin.
B-group Vitamins:
• Biotin (B7): Critical for keratin production, helps to strengthen hair follicles and improves skin elasticity. It helps prevent skin rashes, dryness, and excessive coat shedding.
• Niacinamide (Niacin/B3): Essential for maintaining the skin's moisture barrier by supporting fatty acid production. Helps to reduce skin inflammation and promotes cell turnover.
• Riboflavin (B2): Plays a vital role in cellular repair and regeneration, essential for healing skin lesions and maintaining healthy skin tissue.
• Pyridoxine (B6): Aids in protein metabolism and supports healthy skin by reducing inflammation.
• Pantothenic Acid (B5): Works with other B vitamins to strengthen the skin barrier, increase skin hydration, and reduce inflammation.
• Thiamine (B1), Cyanocobalamin (B12), and Folic Acid (B9): Provide a regulatory function in the immune system, thereby helping reduce allergy-related skin problems.
Hemp seed, sunflower and evening primrose oils all provide natural, plant-based sources of Omega- 3 and Omega-6 fatty acids to nourish and improve skin and haircoat condition and quality.
• Sunflower oil: A high-quality source of healthy omega 6 fatty acids, important for the maintenance of the skin barrier as well as providing an anti-inflammatory function within the skin.
• Hemp seed oil: A premium source of essential fatty acids including Omega 3, gamma-linolenic acid, antioxidants and phospholipids; all involved in maintenance of the skin barrier.
• Evening Primrose oil: Provides a rich source of the omega-6 fatty acid Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA). GLA is involved in the maintenance of cell membrane structure, and dietary sources of GLA can benefit the health of skin and fur.
Important minerals such as Zinc and Manganese provide strengthening ingredients to improve claw health and quality. Omega 3 fatty acids from Algal meal together with Biotin support healthy claw growth, leading to smoother, stronger and less brittle claws.
• Biotin (Vitamin B7): Known to be vital for nail strength and collagen formation. It helps improve the structural integrity of the claw, reducing brittleness.
• Zinc: Essential for skin and coat health, but also crucial for maintaining proper keratinization, which prevents claws from becoming brittle and splitting.
• Manganese: Necessary for collagen formation and cartilage growth, therefore being a key component for overall structural claw strength.
• Omega-3 fatty acids: improve dog claw health by reducing brittleness, preventing splitting, and strengthening the claw structure.
Vitamins A, E, D & C provide potent antioxidants that protect skin cells and support immune function.
• Vitamin A: Essential for skin cell turnover, repair, and the production of healthy hydrating natural skin oils vital for skin hydration. It helps treat issues like dry skin and scaly dermatitis.
• Vitamin E: A powerful antioxidant that protects skin cells from damage caused by free radicals. It is crucial for maintaining the skin barrier, reducing inflammation, and providing moisture support for itchy skin.
• Vitamin D: Acts as an immune system modulator for the skin, having an anti-inflammatory action. It is important for overall skin integrity.
• Vitamin C: Necessary for collagen production, which is essential for maintaining skin elasticity and promoting wound healing. Also provides antioxidant protection, working alongside Vitamin E to reduce itchy skin
The foundation of our supplement is, as in all our products, nutrient-rich protein from the black soldier fly larvae. An easily digestible and nutritious protein source full of essential amino acids. Insect protein can be well-suited for dogs with food sensitivities.
• The Insect Protein used in Fur Friend has been clinically shown to improve skin barrier function in dogs.
• A healthy skin barrier prevents skin dehydration, preserving moisture in the stratum corneum layer of the skin, and maintaining skin structural integrity. The skin barrier plays a critical role in defending the body against negative external factors such as allergens, bacteria, and environmental toxins. Dysfunction of the skin barrier has been linked to atopic dermatitis in dogs.
• The insect protein has also been clinically demonstrated to provide important antioxidant activity in dogs. Improving antioxidant defence is vital in supporting overall skin health, by reducing inflammatory mediators and promoting tissue healing.
